Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a project management apprentice i have a wide array of job roles within my transition team, from hosting calls to tailoring documents. Each day is different which has helped me develop a wide array of skill sets. I have also built a broad network within the business and this extends beyond just my team
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. There are occasions where apprentices are under a lot of stress however this is always dealt with quickly. I feel as though the company makes a sincere effort to work with the employees to ensure everything is working smoothly and effectively. They take the time to listen and engage with our feedback

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am always encouraged to learn and develop and am given ample time to do so. I have completed lots of training courses including finance training and risk management training. Information I have been taught within university is built upon in my placement where needed, a good example being EVM which they hosted a specific training session for our needs

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme is structured in a way that is flexible and with opportunity to develop. My programme is only a year old hence there are changes that can be made to ensure it is the best it can be. There is a general structure in place for line managers to follow but the lack of a rigid plan is ideal for this type of programme. University tends to run slightly differently, and rocky at times but this is something that has been discussed frequently throughout the scheme
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is highly supportive and I have built a vast network that help me when needed, including Line Managers, Mentors, Skills Coaches, Peers and more. There are also other resources for employee use including the employee resource groups and call centres for more severe issues. My line manager is very supportive of my growth as a project manager and is always available when I need
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
University of Cumbria is open to feedback and work closely with us to tailor our learning for our needs. There have been occasions where I have felt as though more support would have been useful as a large portion of work related stress for our apprentice cohort arises from university related matters. It can be difficult to utilise the support schemes as the campus is far from me and hence I tend to just turn to those I trust within the workplace
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel as thought my studies toward my qualification benefit my performance in the workplace and it gives me large overview of knowledge and helps me develop skills that carry over into my role. I also think that the opportunity to complete a degree is an achievement within itself that is a very different experience to a work place role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a lot of activities that anyone can get involved in, most notable being part of an employee resource group which presents lots of social events related to their focus. There are plenty of fundraisers to participate in and I have had lots of opportunity to travel with work

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are endlessly supportive and thinking in your best interest. Development is important to them and if there is a role you are interested in, they will make the effort to help you develop that unique skill set. The attitude of the office is positive and motivating and you are treated fairly
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself. In my experience, BAE like authenticity and letting your personality shine is a great way to do that, talk openly and honestly about your experience and give your input where you see fit. Do not be afraid to chase people and show your interest, they will appreciate you demonstrating your passion and desire for the job
