Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
2 days a week: go to uni for software engineering course.
The other 3: building and testing software in an office or lab environment as part of a team of other software engineers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the program. I feel like I have a purpose

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Developed programming and testing skills at uni and work. (Specifically C++ and ADA)
Developed my networking and communication skills whilst working in teams.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
There is decent structure to the uni and work parts but it is required as part of the course that a Level 4 diploma in Software engineering is completed on top of the Level 6 degree and the work completed in the office. The diploma is poorly ran and doesn't add anything to the course other than unneeded stress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support is decent but the diploma has only just got to a point where it is manageable and support seems adequate.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Very little. We are given time to complete the required work but that's it. The diploma work is assessed in-house and the feedback provided in regards to that is lacklustre to good depending on the assessor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I would say that the first 2 years of training from the provider could be learnt by training resources easily found online. The course may become more useful but so far hasn't covered anything that wasn't already covered at Level 3 education (A levels) (apart from specifics on C++).
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes and a wide variety

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work environment is friendly and flexible. The job is relatively fulfilling and I get to see planes take off and land.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
If you already have a passion for the type of work there just be yourself and enthusiastic but also be able to admit when you don't know something.
