Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Up to now we have spent a full year in college and a small amount of the time in the workplace so i have a small understanding of the role i will be in when i join the company, this will improve in the future as college will be day release meaning more time in the workplace.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy learning new skills and improving upon skills that i have already obtained up to now, although i feel next year when being in the workplace i will develop and learn more from working with employees that have been there for a long time, they will be able to help me progress and become a valuable team member.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed new skills throughout my time at city of glasgow college by studying new classes that i had not looked at before in previous studies, however i have also greatly improved on previous skills i have learned and developed throughout practical and academic studies, my workshop skills have improved due to the experience that the lecturers have and the range of tasks that we are asked to complete.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
i believe the programme is relatively well structured, more time spent in the workplace or more contact with the workplace would be one thing that could improved on although i understand that this is difficult as first year have to complete an HNC in the first year of the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot of support is offered from BAE there are points of contact in the college every week so being able to speak to someone so easily is helpful if needed, there are also reviews every 12 weeks, this helps to keep you on track and support is given if it is needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel the qualification we have achieved throughout the year gives some skills that will be helpful towards the role, however throughout the year we have done a practical engineering unit, although this gives us understanding of the practical applications we are unlikely to use tools when we are in the workplace. it may be beneficial to understand how the tools are applied in the production of the ship when we are on the yard to help with the computer work that we produce.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We were involved in an outward bound week in the first year, this was something that challenged everyone in some way, this programme helped to meet other first year apprentices that i may not have met otherwise as there are many different apprentices to apply for with BAE. however i feel i will find out more activities available when i have time in the workplace.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a good company that upholds its values, the early careers team are really helpful with any questions that i have had about the apprenticeship and the routes that are possible to go down once qualified. there are many opportunities when working for BAE either abroad or changing roles within the company for a change you are never stuck.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would always recommend to do your research on the company, ensure to understand the values that BAE uphold as throughout the apprenticeship a lot has been based of these core values that have been set. Ensure that you are committed to the process of passing units throughout the 3 years spent at college.
