Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in supply chain, helping with order books and also schedule adherence. I work with procurement teams, logistics teams and customers to help keep aircraft airworthy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme. It's interesting and the work feels like it's at a good level- you could stay at level 3 and achieve a lot, but it also sets you up with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to develop further if you want too.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learned a whole host of new IT skills as I use lots of different software in my role. I've also learned a lot about supply chain, risk management and procurement. I've had to develop my communication skills and learn to adapt appropriately.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I find the programme is really well organised. The apprenticeship workshops, coursework and assessment timetable is all clearly laid out from the start, and the business has a good approach to managing apprenticeship placements.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support for the apprenticeship, as well as physical and mental health, is all provided and is easily accessible. Everyone in my team is approachable regardless of subject and have the resources available to support where necessary.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lots. My tutor is brilliant - they're always available to contact and make time to support with any questions or uncertainties. They also take on feedback and adapt their training style to suit the apprentice group.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it helps a lot. I knew nothing about supply chain coming into the business, but I'm able to do my job competently and understand the goings on around me. The qualification also gives me the confidence to ask questions and try stretch assignments.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are so many! Stretch assignments are always there, as well as group events, STEM activities, support networks, educational tours and social events. Professional working groups often run networking events and the intranet and app update employees with a variety of activities taking place.

Why?
The company works to fulfil employee needs on a variety of levels, from social, educational, work life balance and health and wellbeing. You get a really good balance and the support is there.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
The company behaviours are really important. Look into them, and look at ways in which you fit those behaviours.
Ask lots of questions - no one expects you to come in knowing everything.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable - you're going to learn and develop a lot!
