Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
So far I have been in college full time. 9-4 Monday to Friday. This involves academic lessons as well as PEO 3 days a week. Day to day I just attend these classes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I have enjoyed this programme a lot and appreciate what the academics is trying to teach us however the practical lessons that we have is what I came here to do. I hope that the academic things I’ve learnt will eventually become applied to the role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Lots of new skills, welding, pipe bending, hand fitting, better maths skills, better revisions techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The timetable at the start was well organised but as the year went on and we began to finish units, the gaps started to appear and now it’s May and I feel like there is a lot of waiting around for the classes that are still to be completed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
BAE have been very supportive and have provided information about current events within the business. They have been very visible throughout the year so we know they are available if we need them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The college are great at giving you extra help if you ask for it. They will give you additional work to practice skills and further reading if you ask too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
So far I am unclear how my academics classes will link to my role other than the ship building unit we are currently doing. This unit will be invaluable to my role and I’m really excited about having this knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I believe BAE do have groups to join and the college certainly does but at the moment I’d rather focus on my studies.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good salary, good staff, inclusive, great opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
If it’s been a while since you were at school, it would be good to refresh your memory on basic maths. I would also suggest you research what BAE is currently working on by going on their website for the interview. Look at their core values as they like to link questions to that.
