Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is based in college at the moment undertaking both theory and practical based work that will help with my role when going into the business full time. This also includes studies to work towards achieving my NC. The theory and practical based work is split roughly 60/40 in favour of theory.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme as there is always something new to learn. The only negative I have about the programme is possibly the lack of practical work in the later half of the year as we work towards getting all of our written work completed. However I understand that this can be more time consuming.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned multiple new skills while being at the college including welding, fabricating processes, workshop machinery, fairing aids and abrasive wheels training. I have also learned a lot about the theory side of all these processes to give me a better understanding of all the work that I am carrying out.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I feel the programme is well organised and structured again, however, I feel that the balance between theory and practical work especially in the second half of the year could be better. I personally have been finished my written work for a while now and would benefit from more time in the workshop rather than in the classroom.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the support I need from my employer. Regular visits to the college and 3 monthly reviews mean that we are in constant contact with the employer and are always made aware of all resources and support that is available to us whether it be involving our lives during work hours or outside of work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive all support necessary to complete my course and constant guidance from my lecturers regarding what work has to be handed in and what date it has to be handed in by. If I have Any further questions regarding the course I can contact my lecturers via the teams page.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification will help me perform my role to the highest of my ability as the content of the course is tailored to my specific trade. The theory side of the course will allow me to better understand the processes involved in my role as a steelworker when I move into the business full time.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
So far there have been events available within the business for example presentations regarding quality control etc. in terms of sports teams/professional networking events I have not been aware of anything of this nature so far. Networking events would be helpful later on in my apprenticeship to help me better get to know the business and the people I will potentially be working with throughout my career.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would and have recommended BAE systems to friends as so far it has been a great company to work for where you are looked after and you feel the company always has your best interests at heart. On top of that there are many benefits/resources to help with life outside of the company which I find very useful and an added bonus to an already good career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would advise people applying to be prepared for the interview process and be patient as it can be quite a long process as you have to go through the security checks etc. I would be prepared to work hard as the coursework to complete the apprenticeship is time consuming but very achievable if you get your head down.
