Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My current role is a governance and assurance placement within project control. I check everyone is following appropriate processes and help implement corrective actions where this is not happening. I also have an involvement in ensuring everyone has the appropriate training for their role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme, and there is lots of support available if you ever feel like you are struggling to balance things or if a particular placement does not work for you. It can be very busy to manage at times, but help is always there.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed many skills. My time management has developed massively, as I have many tasks to prioritise and complete. My confidence has also grown as I speak to many people each day. My project control knowledge has also grown and continues to grow by the day.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is fairly well organised, on the company front. BAE seem to have an established apprentice system. However, as the degree course is only in its 2nd year (fairly new), requirements for funding etc and the layout of the programme keep changing, which can be quite frustrating.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive an abundance of support from everyone at BAE. We have dedicated skills coaches who check up on us regularly, as well as being able to speak to those who run the apprenticeship programme, our placement managers, and other apprentices in older years. Support is everywhere.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
BAE provides us with some support and checks in so we feel confident. Our training provider is fairly good- we have sessions every week, some online and some in person. We have enough support, considering university is very independent, but there could be more.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Some modules are more hypothetical and psychological, helping to learn about behaviours, but some of the more practical modules link directly to our placement roles. We recently did a project simulation, that mirrored a lot of tasks most of us do within our every day roles, which is helpful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are multiple social events to get involved in, and networking events to meet new people.
