Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an apprentice fitter you can be placed in different environments such as a production line or maintenance /service of an aircraft. Day to day you will be assembling parts on the bench, to an aircraft, undertaking repairs, testing hydraulics/fuel etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy when I am hands on with a live aircraft as I know it is important that the job must be done right first time, which adds pressure, which I like.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am learning how to follow a process, use lots of different type of tooling, be precise and work in hard to reach areas.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is well organised in regards to I know what I am doing and where i need to be at certain times. Sometimes the communication between sites is poor but generally it is good.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I recieve as much support as i need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I recieve as much support as i need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Slightly better but the day to day task of being a fitter does not require the maths and science knowledge taught at level 3.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes they're are lots of networking events across the country and groups.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Work life balance is very good as a fitter. You work 4 days a week and have flexi time. It is a relaxed work environment and the work is important so you feel you are doing something productive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
It is a company that must be innovative to continue to be successful but also a company that is surrounded by operating procedures and standards so try to talk about why both are so important. Also teamworking, collaboration and integrity are important behaviours to demonstrate to overcome engineering problems.
