Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A designer is responsible for creating and developing new products or improving existing ones. I work with a team of other engineers and designers to come up with innovative ideas that meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and technical specifications.
On a day-to-day basis, I usually use CAD,do research, collaborate with my colleagues and problem solve

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my program because although it is office based. I get to see all sorts of trades and get to speak with many different people on a day to day basis. It helps me thrive in my job as I have people who are just as passionate about their job as am I.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

As a designer, there are a variety of skills that I have learn throughout my first year. Some of the key skills that I think have developed me as a person are;
Creative thinking, problem solving, technical skills and learning a brand new software package.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well structured and it has a set our plan allowed me to understand where my apprenticeship is going and what I will be doing next. I always have an understanding of what I’m doing and I always have help wherever I am in the business
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I received a lot of support and encouragement from my employers , they make sure we are settled into the business and are always checking up on us to make sure we are always progressing. They make sure we are happy inside and outside of work and make sure we are healthy
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provided is very helpful and understanding when it comes to my qualifications, they want me to thrive and achieve the best I can, so they always put in place extra curriculum activities and extra support when it is necessary. If I am struggling they will always provide help
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like it gives me more of an insight to how to do my job better and gives me different ways of seeing things rather than how to get things done. They make sure that I am meeting my standards and I am understanding the job role itself within the business
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes. There’s all sorts you can get involved with in work, such as career events to work councils and even going away with work to different sites within the business. There’s so much opportunity within the business and everyone gets a equal chance to thrive and get what they want

Why?
Because they are a well recognised business that always look out for their employees and there’s always chance to grow within the business. There’s always new opportunities and new challenges to take and the people you work with are all so supportive. It’s a great place to work
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be keen and know what you want. Always have good intentions and have the best interest at heart. Don’t act like you know everything and own up to something when you don’t understand it because it shows that you are up for learning new things when you don’t understand.
