Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I carry out maintenance activities on site plant, and if need be carry out fault diagnostics and test on faulty equipment and plant. I also have to complete write ups for certain jobs i carry out in order to reference them later down the line in my carrier at the company.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy working at tarmac, i enjoy the problem solving of fault finding and learning about all the new pieces of equipment, tools and plant around the whole site. I enjoy the work environment, everyone is very friendly and i find it a good company to be working for.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt numerous new skills, methods and techniques while working for this company, i am confident in my abilities in most aspects of the job role so far. It is a good experience overall and is helpful to move sections around the site, in order to see other aspects of the job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There are various parts to the apprenticeship program. Spending a day a week at college and the remaining four on site. You can gain much vaster understandings of how all the machinery works. You also must complete job write ups on certain aspects of the job and there is a training tracker to aid you.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive excellent support from the employer, any needs or queries can be put forward to the apprenticeship leader without a fuss. The support options are made clear to you and 'the door is always open' to them. Overall I would say tarmac is very good with supporting the apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
All apprentices receive adequate training from the company and any needs or queries are resolved as quickly as possible. We get any training we are required to have for the site given to us by the company and supports us through this training and through qualifications training on top of that.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification aids in my job role as it gives me a clear lining of what needs to be studied and therefore assists me in my overall knowledge of my jobs, which helps me when out on site, carrying out the relevant maintenance tasks/activities out on the quarry site.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are opportunities to do volunteering days on behalf of the company, these can involve helping local communities doing tasks to improve the surrounding area. Such as dry stone walling and tree felling. These are usually organised by national trust companies, which tarmac has a co-partnership with and supports them.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tarmac to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend tarmac to a friend as a place to work and as an apprenticeship workplace because there program, support and general scheme are fantastic. The work environment is very friendly and an encouraging place to work. It is a brilliant knowledge building program and an excellent place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
Advice i would give to up and coming people applying for the apprenticeship roles is, brush up on what the company and site your applying to a part of does, and brush up on relevant theories that will relate to your role e.g. Electrician - Brush up on lighting circuits
