Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
For my first year in my apprenticeship, I have been full time at college studying my discipline (Electrical Engineering). I have also had safety training on site and a chance to see some areas of the business whilst teamed up with a third year apprentice.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme very much as it is good to learn new skills. I look forward to the second year where I will be learning various disciplines on site.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed some existing skills through the mechanical PEO classes. I have learned a lot of new skills with regards to electrical systems through my classes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well laid out. My days consist of college work right now to gain my HNC in Electrical Engineering. Our point of contact from Early Careers attends the college on a weekly basis for us to chat if necessary. We also have courses arranged for us on site when the college has holidays.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer. There are many programmes designed to aid with work / personal / financial / physical / mental issues. My employer is very understanding of personal circumstances and does their best to help you out when you need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. My lecturers are very thorough and will always be willing to give additional tutoring if needed. My guidance lecturer has also given additional notes and classes to brush up on topics prior to assessments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My role going into BAE Systems will be Engineering Technician, and my discipline will be Electrical. Therefore I believe gaining my HNC (HND later in my apprenticeship) in Electrical Engineering will be crucial to understanding my role better once I enter the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The company has some Professional Network Events occasionally. The first year apprentices participated in an event called Outward Bound which was aimed to teach the apprentices about the company Behaviours in a fun and engaging way. It also helped bring together apprentices from different trades and disciplines together and get to know each other.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAE is a great company to work for and offers many benefits, full training and a competitive salary. It's a company that you can make a career from and offers the chance to move and work in different areas of the business.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Research the company and the job role prior to your interview. Ensure you have the required qualifications for the job role, if you do not then have a look at other roles that may be more applicable. If you are successful in getting the job and are required to attend college, remember that you are an employee of BAE Systems and not just a college student, so act and behave accordingly.
