Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently in my final year, so my responsibility has picked up. I am involved in two engineering projects, and working with a team of experts. I am now also chairing the national apprentice council, enhancing my development and furthering my skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Very much so.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I feel as though both my soft skills and technical skills have majorly increased since starting with BAE. My confidence is the main thing that has drastically changed, and I am thankful for that.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The structure could do with improvements. But thankfully, the business are tackling this problem and new programs are being rolled out.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I feel as though the support is there, but due to my location i don't feel the affects of it as much.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Initially, the support was low. But, as i progressed through the course and proved my capability, I was given the support that's expected.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification I did was helpful, but majority of my skills and knowledge has been picked up in the workplace. I did two project management units (1/2 of my time in the second year) and this seemed a little strange as there were other engineering modules that would have been much better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes definitely. We have many stretch assignments on offer to the apprentices, but speaking from a council perspective, the interest is low. I think individuals are just so focused on their work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The opportunities available at BAE are endless. You can truly do anything you aspire to, if you work hard and prove your potential. I believe the variety in the work we do mirrors the variety in our workforce, there is never a dull day at work. The apprenticeship is fantastic, and most importantly, fun! You are given responsibility and the ability to work independently.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be ambitious. The company is big enough to facilitate all of your dreams without having to leave the comfort of BAE. Work hard, and you will be rewarded.
