Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as a craft mechanical amd electrical apprentice is to facilitate the manufacturing of the wings and equipped gear beams
Involves going to college for the first year with industry immersion weeks and then being trained on each section of the production line and day release at the college
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoyed the apprenticeship scheme and I have enjoyed learning about the aircraft I will be working on as well as the company it self and the objects and goals the company has in order to revolutionise the aviation industry such as making aviation sustainable and carbon neutral

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of different skills during the apprenticeship. For example how to drill and bolt. As well as this I have learnt new principles such as theory of flight and general aircraft construction methods and techniques while I have been at college. I have also developed existing skills such as time management

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is structured/ organised very well as the first year involves studying at college to receive the baseline level of knowledge that I will need in order to progress onto the second and third year where I can develop specific job / task related skills that will assist me in my career
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have recieved a lot of support from my employer. This involves regular catchups to track my progress and any issues I have as well as very helpful managers that are happy to help with any issues you might be having day to day whilst you are at the workplace
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider [weston college] provide lessons that allow us to learn the content that we will need to compete assignments and coursework about. Some further knowledge needs to be self taught however the teachers are very helpful if you have any issues or if you are stuck on work
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that the qualifications I am working towards through the training provider will be beneficial towards my role as a fitter as it allows me to learn fundamental skills and concepts that are widely used within the aerospace industry both theoretically and practically such as aerodynamic principle of flight
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are extra curricular activities available at airbus through a group called gen a. This involves sports such as 11 a side football as well as other social events such as different themed nights out and events. There are also networking events where you can meet other apprentices and interns

Why?
I would definitely recommend airbus to a friend as it is an extremely good company to work for that creates revolutionary products. The company also has a very good culture and work environment that will make you feel comfortable at work. For example the company has a no blame culture
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Airbus?
Tips and advice I would give to other applying for airbus: show an interest towards the company and what it stands for. As well as this, there are thousands of different opportunities available at the company that allow you to alter your career path as and when you want to
