Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is accentually one of an assistant site manager. I am currently in the process of managing the ground works package having completed the Piling package. I am also in charge of the Carpark fit out and the soft landscaping, however I am currently still in the planning process with these packages.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
When all is going well and deadlines are being hit it is very satisfying. The good team around me also makes for an enjoyable day to day atmosphere. even when things are not going well the team are always very supportive and are happy to help and advise where I require it

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have massively improved my communication skills from just being around others that are good at communicating. I have also improved in my writing ability from uni as well as writing emails and producing reports as well as PowerPoint presentations. I am still learning large amounts at uni as well.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
it is a well organised clear program. as it is a larger organisation there are full time employees at kier that manage the course and training very well. ensuring that everyone on the course is getting the support they need as well as organising young leader events for us to participate in.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
at kier there is a lot of support. as part of the course you are assigned a mentor. this is someone who will help support and advise you throw-out the length of the course. as well as this there is good communication in offices so I am comfortable talking and getting support from anyone.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
When up at uni it is very easy to get support as you can talk to the tutors, who all seem to be very good in there fields. however when not at uni the only communication is over email which I personally get on well with but there is no face to face.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the training course does this very well as I often find myself referring back to my uni notes in order to carry out my job better. this shows I am learning the relevant topics and skills for my job role. The tutors are also very knowledgeable in the topic of construction as well so they can explain things in a relevant manner.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are lots. I am currently in the process of training for the kier triathlon that is held every year. I also often play football after work in organised games. there are many other activities like these, including ones specifically for apprentices to get to know each other. for example we did a two day trip to an activity centre.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
there is lots of opportunity along with the support needed to make the most of it. There is also a great management system that allows for plenty to get done with good communication. One of the reasons i personally enjoy my job is because it is varied so it doesn't become repetitive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
It is a great place to work. would definitely recommend. the more you now about the exact part of the company you want to go into the better. I would also recommend doing some research into the company before handing a cv in as well. apart from that good luck.
