Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am currently undergoing rotations through the company and this means I have a responsibility within the company to complete tasks set by a rotational manager. This can include data entry and some design work depending on the rotation. I will also be completing my level 4 qualification on the side which I have regular reviews with my contact at the Marshall Skills Academy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme I am on as it provides me with a great opportunity to develop my skills in a professional environment and learn from very knowledgeable people.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Throughout my education and through my rotations, I have learnt a number of new skills. Many of the skills I have learnt have stood to improve my knowledge of how businesses work and how to complete specific important functions. Through MSA, I have learnt many general hand skills and also developed my knowledge on aircraft composition.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The degree programme is not the most structured programme, especially when considering the rotations as they are often decided very close to the end date of the previous meaning little time to prepare a following placement. There is also no clear schedule for rotations and this makes it difficult for an apprentice to understand their progression.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a large amount of support from Marshall Aerospace and I have made many contacts within the business who are committed to helping me develop my career and achieve my goals. My support from MSA has varied and times been difficult to identify the relevant person to ask for assistance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The Marshall Skills Academy have been partly helpful in supporting me through my university degree and my Level 4 however I have received exemplary support from the training workshop staff for my Level 2. This has allowed me to excel at this while the other 2 have been more difficult to gain assistance.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The degree that I am receiving through my training provider is going to be incredibly beneficial in my final role as a design engineer as it teaches me the knowledge required to adequately complete my role. It is also teaching vital skills that enable me to write academically and communicate correctly.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There are not a lot of extra curricular activities available to myself as an apprentice at Marshall Skills Academy and I am currently unaware of any that I would be interested in. Instead of this I have had to take it upon myself to find groups and friends within the company to develop the social aspect.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Marshall Aerospace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Marshall Aerospace is a great company with a great atmosphere and even more exceptional people who care about what they do. There are experts in every department who have a wealth of knowledge and are more than happy to help. It has the personality of a small company but within a large company with many opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marshall Aerospace?
Make sure that the apprenticeship you are applying for is what you want. A lot is expected from you at Marshall and you can get a lot out of it if you apply yourself. Having a passion for the work makes the tasks that you are given easier and also means that you can make useful contacts for your entire career.
