Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am given tasks such as designing seats for equipment, placing parts in 3d model and trying to integrate within spacial constraint. Producing production drawings. Compiling data in spreadsheets. Solving engineering problems. Going on ship to see what has been produced. Carrying out changes in 3d model. talking with suppliers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
In general, it is enjoyable. Sometimes it can feel boring or that you are just left on your own with nothing to do simply because you are the apprentice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have definitely improved my communication skills as I talk to different people all the time. Problem solving has improved. IT skills have improved. I have gained useful shipbuilding experience. Improved CAD skills. Improved timekeeping and organisational skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Quite well organised. College work is structured well and I pass classes normally during exam times. Our SVQ qualification is well structured as we are given a breakdown of each unit and which evidence should be produced to cover all the criteria. However, if our evidence could be reviewed earlier, I think it would make it easier and less stressful as receiving feedback for a piece of evidence you produced a year ago is hard to go back to and remember what you did.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The employer is very supportive of us. We are encouraged constantly to ask questions about anything we are unsure of. We are able to go to our training coaches with any safeguarding issues or issues relating to the job. The company itself provides lots of support for things such as mental health and other benefits.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We go to our training coach for support with our qualifcations and the support provided is good as they answer any questions you have and give feedback on evidence.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel as though some of the units are more for a practical job such as a trade instead of someone who is mainly based in the office, so it can sometimes be hard to write evidence for. Some of the things such as health and safety are relevant to my role. But some of the qualifications do not feel relevant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
The company organises lunchtime Skype meetings for someone to talk about a topic, or there are social activities like events. I have not had much experience with extra curricular activities.
