Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I do enjoy the programme but it can be a little dis-organised/dis-jointed at times, I and colleagues have experienced times where we don't know what's going on/ lulls in work, other times colleagues and I have turned up to works areas where we weren't expected and were left to our own devices essentially

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned skills that have greatly enhanced my skillset whilst being on the apprenticeship. I have developed Microsoft Excel skills as well as low level project management skills. in terms of existing skills I have further developed my management skills and co-ordination skills in terms of organising work between different parties

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
in my experience the course that we are studying ( NVQ level 3 business improvement techniques) does not enhance my work experience and skills in the same way an engineering or solely manufacturing qualification would. however the actual course delivery has been great and the programme is structured well in regards to the qualification. however liaising with the course provider has been challenging and getting clarification on coursework has proved difficult.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
in terms of completing my apprenticeship, my employer (TATA STEEL) have been really supportive in assisting my learning experience, I have dedicated time for coursework and projects and they allow thatr to take priority. I think they are really flexible when it comes to apprenticeships and do recommend them to friends and family
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
in regards to the training provider, there does leave a lot to be desired. when trying to contact the lecturer when seeking clarification with coursework it has proved difficult. sometimes I have had to wait a week to get a response, i understand they may have holidays but this is a regular occurrence.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I believe the qualification I am currently studying towards doesn't really marry up to the work I'm currently doing. also throughout the apprenticeship there is no set role for apprentices within Manufacturing Management, this means we can get moved around to different areas and the learning we are undertaking may be way off in regards to the work we're actually doing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
there are a number of extra curricular activities that my employer offers. we have a works rugby team, and there are a number of running clubs. my employer is great at engaging the community and charitable events. they do a lot for the local area and encourage employees wholeheartedly to engage.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tata Steel to a friend?
Yes
Why?
i would recommend my employer, as it's a great career to undertake and there is a plethora of great career paths to go down. there is a breadth of different streams to go down. the benefits are great in terms of healthcare, pensions and pay once qualified. I believe it is a job for life and a great employer overall.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tata Steel?
if you get to the interview stage, try your best to be confident and be keen to share life experiences which show how you've handled situations and life experiences, as I believe my employer values character and people of substance. also try to learn as much about the company as possible as this will only benefit you when applying and further along in your career.
