Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight programme was two days and provided a broad overview of the firm and the different business divisions, with sales and trading focused on in day one and investment banking on day two.
The day-to-day activities were mainly taken up by Managing Directors across the different business divisions giving presentations on their division or sector, with a trading game on day one and an M and A presentation on day two.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The insight provided clear guidelines around what roles were available for the following summer and the entry requirements. It was also clear what different business divisions there were and what the culture at the firm was like.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
While the programme was relatively short (two days), there were a couple of group tasks, which I think increased our presentation skills. We also had the opportunity to improve our networking skills every morning of the programme, where we were put into break out rooms to meet other students.
Apart from the above, we learnt a lot about the firm's culture, different business divisions and had could ask questions to many different Managing Directors.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture came off to be very friendly, where everyone seemed very approachable, and you could ask many questions, which I think would be very beneficial if you started working there.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
Overall, I very much enjoyed the insight programme. I met and spoke to a lot of different professionals as well as students, learnt about the culture and had a good time.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Royal Bank of Canada
Firstly, I would say make sure you practise your numerical test skills, as no matter how strong your CV or application answers are, they won't be seen unless you pass the test.
Secondly, Make sure your CV shows you as a well-rounded individual with more than just academics.
Thirdly, research the company a lot, and try to network with an employee at RBC before applying to strengthen your answers on the application.
