Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
on a day to day basis at BAE systems, Portsmouth role as an engineering rigger involves, banking mobile cranes, slinging and lifting loads, rope tying tag lines to loads, and working out weights of the loads. this is key to making sure loads are lifted correctly and safely in a professional working environment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme because of all the support and opportunity BAE systems offers. the professionalism in the workplace allows you to get the full potential of learning throughout your whole course. also I enjoy the benefits of working for BAE systems, for example holiday, sick pay, early finish every Friday, loads of overtime and shift offers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
during my time working for BAE systems I have developed key skills that will help me through my entirety of my life and time working for BAE systems. teamwork was essentially the first skill I learnt on the outward bound course. my time management has been developed exceptionally as i am always ready to work 5 minutes before my start time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
the organisation and structure is exquisite, everyday is planned out and mentioned before hand so you are fully prepared. you can log onto your emails to check for meetings and every other work opportunity's you would like to attend. college cones to me so there is no travel yto be done.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer as I can call his work phone, head to his office and have regular 1 to 1 meetings with him every fortnight, along as he is not busy. he makes a lot of time for us and really puts in all his efforts he can to ensure we get the best experience from our apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
the support from my training has not been great as of yet, if training provider meaning the college. they are not down enough to really help us understand much for the work we are doing. my line manager has been providing me with the support so far and has done a brilliant job.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
it is an essential for my role as an engineering rigger to have my qualification for the safety and correct use of equipment. without the training towards my qualification it would be difficult to determine the weight of loads and the way to bank cranes operating in a professional manor.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
yes! there are countless extra curricular activities to endure at work and after work hours. recently I was asked to join the ERT team which is during hours ands provides an emergency response team (ERT), for any serious incidents in work. you will still continue your normal day but train after work with an amazing team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
in my opinion BAE systems is the greatest company I have worked for and read about, the amount of benefits it offers is amazing. the importance of work here is unbelievable to the repair of the naval ships. everything is made easy for you along as you are willing to put in all your effort.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
be yourself, everyone gets equal opportunity when applying for BAE systems and there is countless roles you can apply for. ask if you are ever stuck or need help, I have found it is always better to speak up as no one will judge or leave you to struggle at all.
