Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Identifying and securing development land for renewable energy projects. Negotiating with landowners and developers to agree commercial terms. Using GIS and high level programing languages to analyse clients search areas and identfy land and produce plans/reports.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I did not enjoy the training provided by UCEM, and that is no reflection on Savills. The training and support provided by Savills was great, and without which, I would not be able to complete the UCEM assignmets as their program was not up to scratch.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Communication and negotiation with stakeholders. Stakeholder management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I joined Savills at a time when there weren't many aprpentices, into a team that wasn't looking for an apprentice. on that basis, my work based training was very disorganised until i was transfered into the grad scheme. But the UCEM provided training was structured from the start
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Loads. However it is very driven by you. People are more than happy to support you and give you extra training, but you have to ask for it, and drive the process yourself.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Beyond the organised workshops and lectures, very little.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
beyond some technical knowledge and general knowledge, most of my experience and knowledge comes from work based experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, lots of local firms partake in 'young professional' events put on. These can be social networking, sporting activities etc. There are also 5-side football etc for staff members. The office also puts on regular social evenings for the whole office.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I enjoy working there, and they are renowned for their training programe, and it shows. It also allows great flexibility in moving between specialisms if you want to try something different.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Certainly in my area, having knowledge of emerging technologies and modern concepts, such as GIS, data science, spatial analysis etc. will give you an edge over people looking to apply with more traditional land management experience.
