Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Data Analytics is to provide a breakdown of complex data, simplifying it and formatting the new data into a readable statistical report that can be used to determine direction and outcomes. This generally involves looking into various datasets to compare existing data, or interpreting code to understand data flow.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is fairly involved, at the same time providing a level of responsibility to the apprentice. So far things have been going really well, I've been able to develop myself within the role, and have been afforded many opportunities that enable growth throughout this programme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
During my time working for BAE Systems I have been able to build upon professional behavioural skills, my knowledge surrounding BAE Systems as a whole, and building upon my own specialism as a Data Analyst. Likewise, it's allowed for personal skills such as communication to be greatly improved upon.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is broken up into several different aspects that allow for an appropriate learning curve, from introducing an apprentice to basic elements of a placement function, to providing the option for the apprentice to tackle higher levels of work. It's generally been quite good, and easy to follow.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
When I need to request support either in raising a concern or issue, majority of the time it's been very helpful and informative on what can be done to assist. Sometimes there are times where support may take a while to be provided, but overall, its pretty good.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Our training provider at cranfield university is alright when it comes to support, the option is always there and they're willing to provide help above the expected standard, however the support can sometimes be quite vague and not really helpful, which has often led to confusion.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualifications that will be gained will enable me to have a greater pool of understanding when addressing certain things such as networks, or interpreting code to draw an improved understanding of how data works, and what it can be used for.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Many of the teams I've gotten involved with are fairly social and will produce social events to develop better relations, many of which are things such as Outward Bound, or simple work organised meals.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a very secure place to work that provides a lot of pathways into developing a reliable career, and it can also provide an employee with greater working opportunity later down the line. Likewise, there are many benefits for long term employees of the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
It took me a few tries to get into the interview stage for my role, making frequent attempts to work with the company don't go unnoticed. Keep trying, and likewise for the role you apply for, identify key areas that could be mentioned in an interview to demonstrate understanding.
