Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Currently, I am based in the student development centre learning the valuable skills needed to work out on board ships. I start work at 7:30am and finish at 16:15pm. So far I have to complete assignments and knowledge questions and complete courses such as working at height and health and safety.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my programme at BAE systems . It is a great and safe place to learn new skills and that they reward the apprentices very well. I feel comfortable working here and feel like its a great place to progress my career. I would recommended to other people.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed many skills that will be needed to progress in my role. These include learning how to test on electrical equipment and learning formulas which may be needed to calculate certain things required for the task. I have also learnt what its like working in a ship environment and lots about health and saefty.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured and i have a clear timetable set of what i have to do over the course of my year and of my apprenticeship. For example i will know in advance if i have any courses i have to complete and i will have a set time for when these have to be completed by.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received my support from my employer. If i had any issues i know i could go and talk to them and they will try their best to solve the issue going on. They made this very clear to us on our first day and have continued to tell us this as time goes on.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has come in multiple times to assess the work going on. If i had any issues it was made clear to me what i have to do and where to go. They also let me know what is required to to pass the qualification and how to achieve it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it helps massively. My qualification makes me feel comfortable when commencing work and reassures myself that i am able to complete a task. It also can help me progress through my career to achieve other roles and jobs in and around the business. They will be very important throughout my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Although i havent participated in any extra curricular events at the time of writing this, there are multiple activities i could chose to do if i wanted to. For example there are social events to get to bond with more people at work you do not. I did go to the lake district with work to do outward bounds course.

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a massive company which rewards its employees well for the work they do. It is a safe and comforting environment to work in and i enjoy going to work. At the end of my apprenticeship, it will have gave me qualifications to good standards and that BAE systems looks good on CV's.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would say to not be worried about first starting as its very easy to get settled into. I would also say to try and get involved with as much as you can and work as hard as possible to try and get a job at the end of it.
