Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Mechanical Electrical Engineer. Consists of practical work such as stripping engines, pipework and hydraulic testing. And then work reports and coursework on the theory side on websites such as canvas, success factors, as well as learning assistant.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The BAE systems apprenticeship programme is rated highly in the UK and I can see why. I never have the feeling of dread when it comes to realising I have work in the morning, whereas with other things such as school and weekend jobs etc, there would always be a feeling of pessimism. But with BAE, I always think positively about coming in and enjoy most days here.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since starting at BAE, I have many new skills and developed ones I already had. For example not all of these skills are physical such as my use of tools, knowledge on topics and some can be more related to mental skills. For example I came straight out of school and ever since, just from being in this environment and having supportive people around me, my confidence has increased massively.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Within BAE, some of the work has structure, however some of it does not. For example when I first started and we did bench fitting, there was a lot of structure to the days and what there was to do, but nowadays it is more complicated and all over the place.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
In general, I feel as if BAE are a very supportive company with regards to physical health and mental wellbeing as they have a lot of resources available to all employees free of charge to get the help people need. However, I feel as if some support for other areas could be increased.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
With regards to certain things such as online courses, knowledge units, safeguarding, mental health and general training, there is a larger amount of support whereas with practical work, I feel as if there could be a lot more in place to help those who are not as familiar with certain tasks.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
BAE systems training is very effective as I find myself learning a lot of new things every single day. This is essential as if the training wasnt as thorough, I would go into my job role with a lack of knowledge and not be able to perform as well as I would like.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There seem to be a large amount of social activities, however these are mainly for 18 year olds from what i know. There does however seem to be a lack of sports activities available at work and as a sport person I would like to see an increase in the available activities for all ages and sports.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAE systems is an innovative and very important company within and outside of the UK. Not only is it a great start to your life, it also sets you up with qualifications as well as experience leading you being able to do anything you please, whether it is with BAE or another company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would suggest that you do as much as you can if you get the opportunity, as it is a very good opportunity that can lead to a good path in life. Also, be yourself and never be afraid to stand up against anything you disagree with.
