Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
It will depend on which placement I am currently working in, but currently my daily tasks include working on the dreadnought supply chain team. I chase up buyers to get forecasts for current parts that are needed critically for the boat.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy the programme, it is great to be able to travel around the business on different placements to experience different work and figure out what you enjoy

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have developed skills across my project management competencies in leadership, team building and also more niche skills to the role such as risk, governance, planning etc. I have also developed my skills working with softwares such as SAP BI, Excel and Teamcenter

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is organised and I do enjoy how well the programme is set out in ensuring we have our 12 weekly reviews conducted to ensure we are chatting with our provider ensuring that we are enjoying our role and meeting expectations.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
I do receieve support from our early careers team, however some areas do need work such as the functional team which look after our placements. I do worry the amount of people that are being taken on it may be detrimental to the amount of support we can receieve 1:1 as an apprentice
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of support, we have a good university in which we receive support on modules, assignments and examination. I have also had supportive placement managers that have let me take time from my day job to complete degree activities.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I'm not sure how well it helps if I'm honest, everything I learn in uni is something which I find I learn better whilst being taught on the job
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, social events are a big thing for the apprentice population we like to get together and meet one another outside of work which is really good. I also get involved with helping out at schools and running STEM activities which has been great to build up my competencies

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good place to elevate your career by getting a degree and lots of work experience within the sector you want to work in
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would make sure you apply for something that you want to do not just because of the benefits of the money. Research the jobs and see what you would like best and don't follow the crowd in sixth form to come if you dont think youll enjoy the role
