Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role is often quite diverse and can change during the shift but for the main part I supervise and manage the sortation part of the business operation. This involves a lot of people management and 'crisis' response style management within a very specific and often tight timescale. There are routinely times where ad hoc tasks interrupt normal work flow.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship has been great thus far. Not as well organised by Amazon as I would like but extremely well supported and from Manchester Met POV everything has been done to an exceptionally high standard which just makes things easier. Its refreshing to know that support is there from both my employer and my tutors.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I actually took a little bit of a backward step career wise to start the role at amazon. After redundancy due to covid I felt it was a good time to move into a new career path. The really great thing about being in a new industry is that every day is learning so its interesting and not at all comparable to my previous roles.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
As previously stated from an employer POV Amazon has been a little disjointed and communication is pretty poor at times, even things like email responses seem to be difficult at times. That being said the structure provided by Manchester Met couldn't be better. THe program and communication is excellent and the tutors are extremely accommodating when needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support towards the program from Amazon has been great 90% of the time. Financially the support is exceptional and whilst I would like to have more 'in person' support from the apprenticeship team I appreciate that they are not based near me which makes 1-1 support difficult at times. Overall the support has been excellent.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Manchester Met has been really great since the beginning. A really experienced and diverse group of tutors are always on hand and the course information being online is extremely helpful. I f I was being critical I would like to see communication streamlined but thats probably being a little picky.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have almost 20 years of experience in operations management alongside experience in project management and employee progression so that is a strong part of my CV however I have never achieved an equivalent degree so for me personally I think this rounds off my CV nicely and fills any knowledge gaps i may have.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are none at the site i am currently working at however in conjunction with the apprenticeship team and wider leadership team I am attending a networking event in the near future which i do feel is an area i can improve on to further my skill set and overall knowledge

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
No
Why?
The question isn't great as it would entirely depend on the role and the person
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
Understand the role and get as much information on the role as you can before committing to the application. Often the expectation is different to the reality and I think it is important in order to have any kind of longevity in the organisation that the role is 100% what you expected it to be.
