Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

The vacation scheme included a range of tasks and activities. We were able to have a go at some typical trainee tasks for those in their Real Estate seat, and Corporate Seat. We were given talks from members of the firm introducing us to the Firms' sectors. We were also set an ongoing business development task by grad recruitment which involved a delivering a presentation on the final day.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was a fantastic opportunity to get to understand how the Firms' culture is so much more than just words. Every member of the Firm truly embodies the core values of Shoosmiths and the overarching culture is incredibly friendly, unpretentious and welcoming. The scheme included talks relating to the firms sectors which was very informative and gave us a real insight into the kind of work the Firm does.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The scheme built upon core skills developed on the LPC, as well as necessitated commercial awareness and interpersonal skills. Delivering a presentation was a fantastic way to build confidence, get constructive feedback and work closely with an appointed mentor to help guide you throughout the process.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Shoosmiths is a leading law firm, yet remains totally unpretentious, humble and approachable. The lawyers - from associate mentor buddies to trainee buddies - were eager to help, answer questions, and encourage us to perform to the best of our ability throughout. Feedback was clearly designed to be constructive but kind - building confidence and highlighting areas for improvement rather than knocking down applicants confidence. The Firm's culture is unmatched as far as prestigious law firms go.
