Graduate Planner Review

My work varies from day to day which I like as there is a real variety of tasks. My responsibilities normally involve writing reports (such as planning statements, representations, pre-app reports), attending meetings, taking minutes and actions, submitting applications, project management, proofing documents, understanding local planning policy, national policy and reviewing potential development sites.

The structure of the programme is good. It was quite new when I started as an apprentice so my team were sometimes uncertain of how I fitted in and when I was allowed to attend university or training days. This meant there have been times where it has been stressful juggling university deadlines with work deadlines.

The structure within Savills is excellent. There are strong support networks and teams which focus particularly on graduates and apprentices. When there have been queries over parts of the apprenticeship in terms of hours on the job, pay or holiday, we have been supported well. My team have been good in letting me have one day a week to attend university.

I haven't been massively impressed by London South Bank University. I have found them to be very disorganised and there is a lack of communication from the teaching staff. This can make submitting coursework stressful when no-one answers your emails. Some of the lecturers can be very helpful though.

The first year of my course was less practical as it mainly focused on planning theory. However, the second year is very practical and our professional profile module is supporting us with what will need to be submitted as part of our APC which we shall sit once we have completed our degree.

I have enjoyed my time at Savills so far. I find people engaging and helpful whenever I need support. My team are great and very inclusive. For example, we go on a team walk most lunch times which creates a nice working environment. My colleagues have been very supportive of my progression so far.
