I am a motor claims handler, I deal with motor claims for commercial and personal policies and mainly focusing on supplier complaints, dealing with claims with issues with repairs and replacement vehicles, also help out on phone support and working web claim. Overall I do a bit of everything from logging claims to working existing claims.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I do find my apprenticeship difficult and challenging at times which may lead to sometimes not enjoying it, however, overall I do enjoy having a goal to work towards and learning along side working is a good balance.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt vital skills since joining RSA, mainly people skills, being able to speak confidently to customers on the phone.
I have also increased by computer skills, before working for RSA I was not confident on computer systems whereas I am now.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme had a rocky start with the way the apprenticeship ran was changed around the time I started, I was unfortunately led down the old pathway for the first few months before my coach changed and advised I was doing things in the wrong order and things had changed.
It took some time and support to back date work and get back on track but I was supported throughout this.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer and specifically line manager is always available for any support/issues with my course.
My employer has also been flexible when I need time for my studies even when the normal day to day work is very busy, I do still get the time off that I need.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have monthly catch ups with my coach and a performance review every 3 months, my coach always makes sure I know she is only an email away and will always provide any support I require.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Massively, you can do my day to day job with limited knowledge on how insurance works and operates but It has given me a massive advantage in my confidence dealing with complex queries as the course covers all aspects of insurance so even thing that don't directly involve me I know how things work which often comes in handy.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is monthly team times at my work where we talk about work affairs but also team building exercises, quizzes/games etc.
At least twice a year we go on a team meal funded by RSA and also there is parties arranged for holidays like christmas and a yearly quiz at a local bar.

Why?
For someone my age looking to get into the insurance industry I feel it is a great place to be introduced, learn and grow into the industry, there is lots of room for progression and plenty of opportunities available within the business.
There is a wide range of people and overall a nice place to be.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Group?
Knowledge on insurance is not necessarily required, the main thing you need to succeed at RSA is people skills, the knowledge needed for the role will be covered in the extended training programme but it is difficult to teach the people skills you need, it suits people who are confident in talking to people and can have difficult conversations sometimes.
