Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves future-proofing the company and looking at external market trends to understand how the company can be aware of outside influences. This involves thinking about general strategic risks like how the pandemic can shape the economy and the insurance industry. Day-to-day tasks vary according to what project we're currently working on.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme just because of how broad my job role is and the numerous skills I can pick up along the way. Moreover, I enjoy the programme because I have a network of other graduates who are in the same position as me and we all learn together and develop as a cohort.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my confidence and soft skills just by interacting in a professional work setting. This has helped me work on my stakeholder engagement skills. I have also learnt a new skill which I have always been interested in which is coding as I have learnt a new coding language.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme is well structured in the sense that it is divided very clearly between the different parts within RSA. However, I would say that Davies could use some improvement in terms of organising the different aspects of the apprenticeship and making port of calls a lot easier to access.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer in the sense that I have multiple check ins with my manager and also have a mentor who works in a different line of business. Moreover, HR and the lead for the graduate programme is always available to help which is extremely useful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive consistent support from my training provider Davies and they are always eager to help. However the systems could definitely benefit from becoming more easily accessible and a lot easier to understand. The way to book exams is easy and the resources available are very helpful in completing my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification helps me to an extent in gaining a foundation understanding of insurance. I have recognised that there are some correlations between what I learn in my qualifications and the work I do to on a day to day basis. If anything, there is consistent overlap between the apprenticeship learning and what my company requires me to learn
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There aren't any social activities that are deemed extra-curricular activities as far as I am aware. However it would be good to see some events that focus on sports teams. I have attended a professioanl networking event with the CII which was a great way to connect with other graduates.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RSA Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend RSA because it is an environment that encourages your professional development and helps you to build your skill set. The support network available at RSA is extensive and very helpful as everyone is willing to give you advice and give you exposure to anything you are interested in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Group?
Don't shy away from showing off your personality in your interview and be prepared to build an extensive network. Also, ask as many questions as you can because everyone is willing to help and it demonstrates your curiosity and eagerness to learn. People of all different skills sets are welcome at RSA which is always nice.
