Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Working as a security operations analyst, responding to and investigating alerts and also proactively defending the organisation. Most work is with my internal team, some interaction with wider teams within the business but not a customer facing role. Responsible for triaging and managing security incidents and escalating if needed to.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot, particularly the job side of the programme. This is where I feel I have learnt the most practical and valuable skills to help me as I progress in my career as a SOC analyst. The training provider side of things not so much unfortunately
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Developed a lot of new skills whilst working in this job. This ranges all the way from technical skills to soft skills of all different varieties. Every day is different and so I am learning new skills and improving on my existing skills every single day as I progress here.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure is okay, but could move a lot quicker as I feel I have learnt a lot more from the on the job side rather than any structure provided by the training provider, which has felt a bit all over the place at times in terms of the order of doing things.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received ten out of ten support from my employer in all ways since starting my apprenticeship and learnt invaluable things along the way. My manager has always pushed me to do my best and made it so my time here has never seemed a chore.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The courses provided by the training provider have been awful every time unfortunately and my learning 'mentor' is more about red tape than actual learning. There seems to be more concern towards ticking boxes than actually providing a solid learning experience for apprentices. I hope this improves when enter my EPA.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel it helped to get me the job initially and therefore will help in future but overall I have learnt way more on the actual job than I have from any so called 'training' provided by the learning provider so far.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I work remotely so do not get involved in similar things to this often.

Why?
Great place to work, great support in place to help you do your job. The management and my colleagues have always made me feel welcome and like I belong here. Makes life at work a lot easier and helps to look forward to working with my team on a daily basis.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Centrica British Gas?
Go for it you won't regret it, the environment here makes it a great place to work. I have not looked back since joining Centrica so I am sure you will not either. I have enjoyed starting my career here and look forward to more to come in the future.
