Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Carrying out actuarial calculations for many reasons. For example calculating the transfer value of a member's pension or helping towards calculating a valuation of assets and liabilities for a pension scheme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it very much, there is a lot of variety of work so it is not repetitive and boring. In addition the other people who work here are great and the social aspect to working here is good.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills from being able to use software such as excel (which I had never used before) to gaining an intermediate knowledge of how pensions and pension schemes work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well organised. There are webinars hosted by BPP for the content of our exams which take place at regular intervals giving you enough time to take study days and learn the content before the webinar.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A good amount of support, I can take more than enough study days to ensure I am well prepared for my exam. We also get paired with a study mentor who is there to help us out on any queries we have for studying.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support from BPP is very good. My BPP coach organises regular meetings with me to discuss work, study and the course work for my apprenticeship. I can easily ask for advice on course work and any queries regarding studying.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
At the moment, probably not so much as my first exam is just maths based without an actuarial focus but I am sure my next exam will be more relevant to my role. The course work is a good chance to reflect on my work to improve.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are many social activities to participate in and some sports based activities that are going to be carried out in the future.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The culture/environment here is very welcoming and supportive. Everyone is very friendly and the socials are great for having fun and getting to know people. The work is also intriguing and with variety so most days are different (in a good way).
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
Get involved in the socials activates as it is a great chance to meet people in the business who you don't regularly work with.
