As part of the apprenticeship scheme, we get the chance to move around the business across various departments every 6 months. My first placement involved me joining the Go 2 Market team where I had an active role in managing digital advertising and email campaigns. As of today, my second placement will involve me managing social channels such as LinkedIn, twitter and Instagram.
Day to day, I have the independence of being able to schedule my own meetings with stakeholders and liaison with external marketing agencies for our campaigns. When there are no active campaigns for me, I'm often sourced other projects to work on.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I absolutely enjoy my digital marketing degree apprenticeship with E.ON. The aspect of learning while studying for a degree apprenticeship stood out to me when I applied and I'm happy to confirm that it's the best part about being on this programme. E.ON is a welcoming and friendly company so I'm always excited to come in to the office and see everyone.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Over my 6 months of being in my placement, I've noticed a positive shift in my confidence. This scheme has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone by being proactive and allowing me to network with people from around the business and form relationships. As a digital marketer, I've been able to acquire knowledge from a B2B aspect.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme here at E.ON has been organised thoroughly. We each are assigned a buddy (an older apprentice) and a business mentor to support us throughout our time with them. This allows us to have regular catch-up's with our mentor for guidance and support. Our placement are also broken down to 6 months each which allows us to have a feel of the different parts of the business. We have end of placement meetings to give a score which indicates our progress on the scheme which helps round off our placements.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

E.ON offers a variety of different support functions. They have mentors that you drive relationships with who offer support from a professional but personal level. I always feel like I can communicate with my line manager and wider team as they understand that I've just arrived from sixth form and may have many questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My university is my training provider and my sessions on campus are spread across every couple weeks. We have a university mentor who takes part in progress meetings with my business mentor to help bridge the gap between the training provider and work. This allows them to understand my progress and what steps need to be taken next.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Due to my training provider being a university, they allow me to perform better in my role through the knowledge of digital marketing I acquire. I often find myself applying marketing theory in my role, especially when my modules align with the type of work I carry out (email marketing). Despite this, the bridge between E.ON and university feels distant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

E.ON has allowed me to take part in a variety of extra-curricular activities outside of my base location of Nottingham. I've had the chance to travel to London a few times to take part in international events such as GreenTech festival and network with people from Audi and Vodaphone. Socially, there aren't as many events but I've enjoyed the opportunities I've been given.

Why?
There are so many opportunities you can take if you join E.ON, especially through the L6 apprenticeship scheme. You're able to traverse through different departments of the business every 6 months for 4 years while building relationships with stakeholders and understanding more about the business and the values they hold. I've not encountered a bad colleague and everyone has been welcoming and friendly so far.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON UK?
Be yourself when you apply to E.ON as they value the type of person you are as you're able to express yourself at the office and feel welcome. Networks like the diversity network further this and help make the business as inclusive as possible. Another tip would be to become more sustainable and align yourself with the values of E.ON.
