Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Primarily undertaking loan security valuations on behalf of various development finance institutions for a wide variety of residential and commercial assets. I also assist in the purchase and sale of development land throughout our patch and engage in consultancy work for clients.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Very much, I get the theoretical and academic side of the discipline from my university studies which I can then put into practise in my day-to-day job which only solidifies my learning more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a huge amount about what is a relatively complex discipline. Everything from client management and confidentiality to methods of valuation, report writing and communication skills, lots of the aspects of the job are regulated by the RICS and so learning how to operate within these regulations has been the biggest part of my day-to-day job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well structured. I have a study day every Friday which is dedicated to university study which works well for me and the rest of the colleagues.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots. I have a dedicated supervisor and separate councillor who monitor my progress day-to-day and through monthly progress meetings. I also have access to wider events with other graduates and HR which are dedicated workshops/ seminars/ training days which are specifically designed around APC requirements
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
A good amount. I am able to chat through academic work or reports I am working on with my supervisor or councillor who is able to give feedback. This is a good balance I feel because any more support would possibly be plagiarising and wouldn't be good for my learning
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It will allow me to perform immensely better as I will have the Level 1 knowledge of all the disciplines and competencies that we cover from which I can provide better advice and a better product to the client.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I do lots of mentoring as part of Savills scheme with individuals who wish to enter into the property industry. I also engage frequently with other graduates doing social activities and at events. I am also sustainability officer for our office which involves continually trying to improve the office's sustainability offering and output, making the workplace we work in greener.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great company which allows you to grow whilst supported by some of the best people and organisations in the business. At the same time they recognise that everyone is unique and embrace the fact that everyone sees things in a different way which is why the company's biggest asset is it's people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Showing how enthusiastic you are about your hobbies and interests is key as Savills can teach you the industry, but they can't teach you to have a natural passion for learning and developing your skills. If you can show examples of where you have taken responsibility, driven success, lead a team or thought outside the box, you will automatically be in a good position.
