Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My day to day role involves working on aircraft alongside skilled individuals to help develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a fully qualified aircraft technician. I am also working towards an NVQ level 3 in aviation maintenance as well as an A license in aircraft maintenance which I have time to work at points during the day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed the programme so far. It has given me opportunities that I never thought I would have as an apprentice and allowed me to meet new people and explore new places. I would definitely recommend this apprenticeship programme to anyone looking to get into the aviation industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed an abundance of new skills which involves hand skills, communication, networking and more. Before joining the apprenticeship I had very little knowledge of how aircraft worked, let alone how to go about maintaining them. Now, I have a wide array of skills that I can choose from to implement in my day to day work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured as it allows you to progress more and more as you go through it. We spend the first 10 months at college, learning everything we need to know to go out in to the workplace. The next 2 years is then OJT (on job training).
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is very supportive and offers any help whenever I'm stuck or have questions. We are also supplied with all of the PPE needed to carry out our day to day tasks safely and comfortably. On top of this, we have regular meetings with our manager to ensure we're on track and happy with what we're doing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We have regular meetings with our training provider to ensure that any questions we have can be answered in person and that we are on track to meet our NVQ targets. During these meetings we can continue with our work and if we have any queries about any of it, we can ask.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification definitely helps me to learn new things, as well as perform better in my role. This is because there are questions we have to answer and in order to answer some of these I may need to look at an aircraft in person to better understand what is being asked. By doing this, my knowledge of the aircraft systems is broadened.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At work there are many different groups you can join where you can socialise, help improve things within the company, share recent successes and more. I have also taken part in some team building activities which have helped me get to know my colleagues as well as have some fun.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I've had the opportunities to travel learn, travel, meet new people and have fun all whilst starting a career in aviation. It has been an amazing experience getting to work on different aircraft with a company that has been welcoming, friendly and supportive throughout my journey as an apprentice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
To embrace and say yes to every opportunity that comes your way because you never know where it will lead you. If you have a passion for aviation or engineering, I would definitely recommend this programme as it will provide you with all of the skills and knowledge you need to become a fully qualified Aircraft Maintenance Technician.
