Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Calculating individual members pension amounts, working on projects such as accounting and valuations and general manipulation of data in order to derive a specified result. A lot of numerical and analytical work, however I also compile reports and send in-depth technical emails whilst consulting both internally and to other teams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the culture at WTW and enjoy the work I am involved in. I feel supported in every aspect in my role and know where to look in order to aid my continual development. Most days I also feel a great sense of reward after the workday is finished.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
0/5
I have develop my analytical ability to manipulate data, my understanding of technical concepts and the application of this to the real work. In addition, I have left soft skills such as verbal and written communication and simply being able to adapt to different scenarios based on what is expected of me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The process by which the apprenticeship is laid is very well formatted. I have received a timetable detailing the deadlines of each stage of the apprenticeship: exams, 20% on the job training and the work I should be completing at each period in my apprenticeship. The options for which I have after the apprenticeship is laid out clearly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have a coach from our external training company: BPP and have regular scheduled catch-up calls with both my line and study manager. We have weekly huddle meetings whereby workload is allocated and re-allocated throughout the team based on capacity to ensure no one is overloaded or has too little work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have regular catch-up calls with my BPP coach where we discuss: my current objectives, the work I have completed since our last call, what I would like to get more involved in, setting study targets and how I am feeling both generally and about the apprenticeship. I feel well supported and know that I can turn to my coach if I felt I needed to.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have done 2 exams through the CAA actuarial exams . The first of which was base mathematical understanding which was a re-visit of a level mathematical topics and the second of which was financial and actuarial based which linked in my day-to-day work such as calculating annuities which I use in transfer value quotations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a lot of social events that I can get involved in from dog walks every Thursday to socials at the Epsom racecourse for derby day. There have been points where once a week I ended up on a work social! The culture at WTW is great and people are always up for all types of networking events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have enjoyed my time and WTW and feel the company is worth joining. I feel supported and have enjoyed my time here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
Have a very basic understanding of actuarial and mathematical topics to help with your view on the role. Also bear in mind that actuarial work is lots of risk-based and assumption setting jobs.
