Global Markets Summer Analyst Review

Global Markets = Sales, Trading and Structuring. In Sales, much of my day was spent helping to prepare morning news/commentary, listening into client meetings and preparing presentations. In Trading, much of my day was spent learning technical jargon and networking with colleagues. It is more difficult to assimilate into the role of a trader as there is capital at risk - so there is a limit to what you can do. I didn't rotate on any structuring desks.

You are given as much responsibility as you are prepared to take/demonstrate that you are able to take (within reason). There are some things that you can't do (e.g. trading) but if you show you can be trusted to complete tasks to a good standard, you will be allowed to help out with small tasks that will benefit the team.

Loads. Typically, the Investment Banking stereotype is that it is very cut throat and unsupportive. At RBCCM, I was in constant contact with lots of people, from analyst level all the way up to Managing Director - an experience that I don't feel could be replicated as well at other firms.

Very good, very welcoming and very comforting. I felt like I always had a strong support network around me.

Honestly, this placement was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I learnt so much, not only about the company and the industry, but also about myself. I've also made some good friends from the experience so I would definitely recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to go through it!
