Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a graduate surveyor in Savills’ worldwide occupier services team, specialising in the corporate account management of global property portfolios. I act as a single point of contact for corporate occupier clients based from Savills, Manchester. Working across all geographies helping clients manage their real estate.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I truly believe, from seeing and speaking to a number of graduates at other real estate organisations, that the Savills Graduate and Apprenticeship programme is truly the best programme in the market. This is largely down to the experience and support that is available to graduates and apprentices from day one.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Having come from a non-real estate background - undergraduate degree in Human Geography - I have and continue to develop a number of skills relating to the real estate industry. These skills have also been aided through undertaking a Masters degree in Real Estate alongside my day-to-day job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is extremely well organised and structured due to the excellent support and events put on by the graduate team. They are extremely friendly and always available for a chat should graduates have any queries or questions. There are regular training days put on to aid with the APC milestones which all of the graduates in my experience have found extremely useful, whilst also providing a great opportunity to network across the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I believe that Savills offer an excellent level of support to their graduates, whether that be flexibility in working arrangements (WFH or in the office) or the ability to proactively get involved in with projects and presentations to clients. In addition, the graduate team are a massive part of graduates support networks.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The support from Savills when working towards my qualifications is second to none, however I feel as though the support and understanding from the Masters degree provider has been lacking on a number of occasions. I feel as though their is a distinct lack of flexibility, understanding and support from the degree training provider, I feel this may be due to the fact that the programme is online and therefore a lack of human interaction with lecturers but also in the way the programme is structured which does not account for apprentices workload, deadlines at work and on their degree and seasonal periods of the year. I feel as though the degree training providers need to work with the graduate team more closely and the students themselves. The Savills graduate team support however is second to none and they represent all the 5 stars.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
As mentioned previously, the Savills training and support massively helps me perform my role to a higher standard. The degree training provider gives me a basic theoretical knowledge to the industry, however I do not believe they fundamentally help me perform my role better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Savills have a wide range of extra-curricular activities to get involved with. These include: sports such as Rugby, Netball, Tag Rugby, Football, Tennis, Gym classes etc.; committees for charity, client development, diversity and inclusion; groups for the education sector, allowing those willing to actively engage with external committees such as the Matrics or representing the RICS at sports such as Rugby.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Truly live up to their name as a people business. The company has a real family atmosphere and they encourage inclusivity and diversity across the whole business on a global level. I believe that we truly care about the service we offer our clients and also take pride in caring about helping our clients improve their businesses wherever possible through the advice we give.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Read up about the company, gain some work experience but most of all get to know as many people as you can. We truly are a people business, so network externally with clients but also remember to network internally as well.
