Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My current role as an apprentice surveyor is that I work in the office 4 days a week and one day a week I work from home completing my university degree. When at work, I work alongside my colleagues to help complete jobs we are instructed on. This includes valuation reports, inspections, agency job and due diligence.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
So far the programme i am on is really interesting. Being able to complete a degree without going to university is something that has always appealed to me. Both the university days and on the job working has positives. On the university day I start to consolidate my learning from the office. Currently I have been studying law which is a new topic to me but has been relevant to my working life. Also, working on the job is highly rewarding because I can put things I learn on my university days to a real life situation which helps me develop my understanding. Also working in a place like I do, creates so many connections with people in the same career which I want to pursue. The flexibility from both Savills and the University is also a positive to this programme

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
So far i have definitely developed more skills. Mainly focusing on interpersonal skills and technological skills. For interpersonal skills I have increased my confidence when talking to people because I participate in lots of networking events. I have also broadened my knowledge of how to use excel and word and have come into contact with new technological platforms that I wouldn't use as such unless tasking the career path I am. There is still many more skills for me to explore and grow in which Savills has the support for.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The Programme is well structured. So far it has included all relevant knowledge which I have been able to apply at work. Also, having every Thursday off works for me as it gives a structure to my working week and know that every Thursday is my dedicated university day. In addition, we have apprentice outcome officers from the university, who work to support us along the journey.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
In Savills we also have the support from the future talent team, line managers and other grads and apprentices so you know you always have someone to go to with a query. The future talent team hold grad and apprentice days here we can meet up with the other apprentices on the same/different programmes to use which is useful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider offers lots of support. Firstly you have a personal apprentice outcomes officer who meets with you and your line manager every 3 months to discuss the apprentices progress. This is useful as we all identify my strengths and weaknesses. The university also have a a support system in place whether its for help with formatting assignments/ extension dates or mental health issues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification I am doing helps to perform in my role as at university I learn the meaning behind a lot of work I participate in. It also helps me alongside work to complete jobs which are delegated to myself. Overall I am gaining abetter understanding of the job from learning alongside as I am constantly applying my new knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of networking events which both Savills and our clients. Some of them involve a sit down lunch and some of them involve day activities. There are also sports teams for Savills however, they are more London based which would not be economical for me to attend because of the distance.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because I know with Savills I can rely on them for support from the teams throughout my degree after. There is so much to offer here where I can potentially consider specialising in a specific industry and there are lots of opportunities to meet with clients to build a personal client base. So far it has been an exhilarating journey and I look forward to continue that journey further.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Be completely honest about the person you are. Dont be afraid to disagree with any of the questions in the interview as they want to know that you have an opinion. Show your confidence throughout your interview and assessment day. Ask questions about the position you are applying for. Make sure you research Savills as a company before an interview.
