Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I create and update databases in which my team then use for their project work. I also help out with client deals by making powerpoints which are later than used to present to potential and existing clients. Lastly, I do the admin internal work that involves tracking and recording deals that are done on a regular basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme for various reasons. The first is the support that is given to apprentices by both the internal UBS apprenticeship team as well as the Exeter apprenticeship team - I feel supported by them throughout this journey and they have shown availability when I needed it. I also like the fact that I start in front office which is something many apprenticeships dont do so I am learning the job that I am being trained to do from the get go.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed many new skills, from more technical skills like excel and powerpoint to more interpersonal skills like presenting and communication. I have also developed my organisational skills as a lot of my job is surrounded with being a support to the wider team hence being organised is essential so that my work is easily accessible to those around me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is fairly new hence why there is still changes in the structure of the programme that happen every year - however saying this, any changes that are made, are done with the intention of making it more convenient and easier for the apprentices to understand and have more support. In terms of work every day is different which is why I personally enjoy it so much.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive support from my employer through various different angles - whether it is from my manager or my staffer within my working team or through the business sponsor on our floor or lastly through the apprenticeship team at UBS. They have shown to be reliable and available and although due to logistics our feedback cannot be put into practice immediately, we recognise that steps are being made to make this easier.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive good support from the University of Exeter, whether this is with my academic mentor who I have quarterly catch-ups with, or through the apprenticeship team or even with the lecturer themselves. They have once again shown availability when needed and have given me solutions to problems that I had regarding the uni side of things.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification that I receive through Exeter helps me have some more knowledge regarding the industry that I am in - although it may not relate directly to the work that I do - it has given me some more background knowledge that I wouldnt have otherwise. It is also a good basis for any future work I may do around the bank.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many activities that you can get involved in at UBS in which apprentices can take full advantage of. For example, there are many employee networks that we have that show events whether they are speaker series or other activities which has given apprentices very valuable networking skills - Including an employee network specific to apprentices - the ApprenticeNet.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The culture and the people make UBS what it is - to be able to go to work and surround yourself with good people in which you can leverage their knowledge to also help your own career is an invaluable characteristic that apprentices are lucky to have. We have loads of support both internally and externally which also makes this journey so much easier.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
When applying to UBS, they want to see how passionate you are and whether you will fit in with the culture. Therefore make sure that your values are in line with UBS' values and have an overall knowledge of UBS, who we are, and why you want to join UBS.
