Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My every day role consists of in essence, evaluating risks. I will evaluate a risk, assess whether it is in appetite for the company at that time and decide whether we would be happy to offer cover for this particular entity. So far, I have mainly been working with professional indemnity insurance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am very much enjoying my programme. The day to day work with my company is fantastic. I find it really fascinating and engaging. My apprenticeship work covers a wider branch of the insurance industry and I learn things from there that I wouldn't in my role, which is good for future progression

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a wide range of new skills. Some of this came naturally with gathering information of the insurance industry and the specific products that we offer, including detailed risk assessments, reviewing financial reports and pulling the required information.
My soft skills are also developing greatly and even little things such as using excel

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I find that my programme is well structured and organised. If I have an issue or if I find that I feel that my learning coaches aren't engaging with me as much as I feel they should, they are only a message or a teams call away and take feedback very constructively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
In terms of my day to day, my employer and the team that I have around me support me well. I have an in work mentor for my actual work, and a mentor from a different department in RSA to discuss things that are not directly work related, or things I may find a bit sensitive to discuss with my team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
In terms of receiving support from my training provider, I feel that this could be a lot better. Contact is very infrequent and at times requires me to complain to my work manager for them to get in touch. From sept to dec, I was 'forgotten about', which they did apologise for, but I haven't heard from them since
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel that the online resources are good to use when there is something in work that relates to the task so that I can put what I have learnt into practice. At times, there are tasks that are very 'school like' and I feel that these could have been tailored to appeal to a more adult audience, as that is what an apprenticeship is about; preparing you for the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
With RSA, there are some roadshows, which are in effect professional networking events. Apart from that, I'm not aware of anything extra curricular apart from social activities with my team, such as going for a drink after work. I'm not aware of any sporting or actual events that may happen.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RSA Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend RSA to a friend as they are a company that really do care and see you as the next generation of their own roles, and want to get you trained up and give you as much experience as possible to enable you to excel. I have been recommended to RSA by family members who also work for the company
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Group?
I would really say to be yourself. You will be required to be responsible and accountable for your own work, which forms a team goal. You will see your own purpose when joining the business and the best thing to do is to be open, honest, interested and eager as you are seen as the future of the insurance industry.
