Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My first placement so far has involved working with apprentices in learning for their funding paperwork and other important paperwork needed for funding and processing of their apprenticeship. My jobs involve updating and uploading certain paperwork onto specific websites such as Yeti or Learning Assistant.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme so far, at times certain tasks can be monotonous and boring, but these are tasks that need doing and are important in the current placement I am in. Overall I do enjoy the programme as there is always something to do and always something to learn, with new skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
New skills I have learnt are project management skills, communication, teamwork, leadership and I have learnt skills on Microsoft Excel also. With this placement that I am currently on, I get exposed to all of the sectors of BAE Systems, not just one sector such as Air. This should put me in very good stead for my future career here.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme seems to be very well organised and structured so far. We know what is expected of us and when, so far events are on time, meetings are set every week and I know what is expected of me each week. We also have meetings with our skills coaches and as a group all together to make sure everything is going okay.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The support is very good so far. We all have 'buddies' we are given if we need any help with anything. We also have skills coaches that we can go to if we aren't happy with anything or if we need any help. Within the placement I am in, I have a manager that makes sure I am okay and have work to do as well as a mentor within the workgroup.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support is always there as we are given skills coaches who make sure we are on track with the qualifications side of the apprenticeship. We can contact them at any time, and there is more than 1 skills coach, so if 1 is to be off or not available, there are plenty others who can help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps a lot as it gives us the knowledge on the business itself. For example, we had a class on communication and stakeholders which helped me further understand how BAE Systems works and why. The knowledge gathered from the qualification will mean that we are well accustomed to where we work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there is plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in, such as STEM and other opportunities. STEM in itself is a huge way to be able to do extra off the job activities, there are always things happening in STEM. Not only that but there is always emails about getting involved with all sorts of different things.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend because it is a great company to work for, for career stability and career progression, the opportunity to travel around the world, not only that you are supported well and looked after. The opportunity for success is at your fingertips if you apply yourself well.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would say keep your mind open to opportunities, always say yes (unless you really can't say yes for reasons), take the challenges as they come and learn from them, be ready and willing to connect and network with people and enjoy the career that you are about to embark on if successful in landing the job at BAE Systems.
