Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
In addition I lead on finance for the department and I am there to manage project delivery and manage reputational risks to deliver business outcomes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I enjoyed learning in more detail about subjects on people management, without the apprenticeship and raise the bars support I would not have explored in any details about how to be a better team leader.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
How much support do you receive from your employer?
I have spoken to other colleagues within my workplace, and they have also felt that they have struggled to have time from work to do their assignment. I think it is easy for an employer to say you have as much time as you need however the work keeps coming in and still needs to be delivered.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
At work there is also a socail media platform called Yammer where people from across the organisation can post of a social web based app to support each other.
We also have additional Environmental Leave days where we can take time out of work and deliver and Environment project or event, for example this year I have signed up to help in January with other staff to plant left over Christmas trees in the sand dunes to help the wildlife trust reduce sand dune erosion.
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs to a friend?
Why?
I have always found the culture to be supportive and friendly and everyone helps each other.
There are benefits such as flexi time, opportunities for overtime, 2 environmental leave days and we have a staff benefits membership to get discounts.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs?
In terms of advice on applying you will need to be patient during recruitment as the current recruitment process takes too long and can be very frustrating. Also the current recruitment process involves a capability assessment type setup so you need to understand this.
