Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I’m a pub team leader and I run shifts, count tills, lock up pub, work behind the bar, clean tables and run food. I deal with customers and strive to provide great customer service. I do kitchen checks and work as part of a large team of people who I delegate tasks to.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I very much enjoy my apprenticeship work and I find it helpful. For my course I also have to complete English and maths Gcse and I don’t enjoy that as much as the apprenticeship work. I sometimes find it hard to get things done on busy weeks when I’m working lots but it’s going well so far.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have developed and learnt many skills in the last couple months. I’ve learnt how to use Aztec, beer line cleaning, the vault, p&l reports. Also I have developed my skills in running a team and delegating tasks. I’ve had to deal with difficult situations and problem solve regularly.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is very well organised, my apprenticeship coach [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], is very organised and understanding and always willing to help.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I do receive some support from my employer. If I tell my manager I need to learn a particular skill or how to do something, she is always willing to teach me. I do think sometimes I work to much to get the apprenticeship work done though and that can be difficult.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive lots of support from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], she is always there to answer questions and I know I can message her at any time and she will answer as soon as she can. She doesn’t give me to much to do and is understanding if life happens and things don’t get done as quickly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I believe it helps me to perform better by giving me a different way of looking at things and understanding different techniques of leadership, working with customers, personal reflective logs, being environmentally friendly etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Me and some of my colleagues are friends and we spend time together outside of work. There’s isn’t a particular workplace activity or sports teams to get involved in.

Why?
Because they do offer great advancement opportunities and you can progress within the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
Beware that it is long hours and you do get worked to the ground. If you wish to progress and you care about your work it’s a good place to be, but you need to find a balance between work and social life and take regular weekends/ days off.
