Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I go on different placements within the business so my day to day tasks and role can change multiple times a year. As a project controls apprentice I have got to experience risk, planning estimating and a number of different experiences, with day to day tasks, applicable to each scenario.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme a lot, it can change with each placement which is natural, but in general I feel like it is a great programme and I have had the opportunity to experience a lot of different and interesting environments. So in general I would say I greatly enjoy my programme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a number of new skills, relevant to more technical skills needed for each area. I have also developed my skills in a number of areas, particularly excel, but also general presentation skills, both with how my presentations look, and also how I deliver them to an audience.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think my programme is structed very well, I spend varying lengths of time in my placements to align with the taught unit at college. I feel like this is a very stable structure, and even when the workplace can't support me for full placement, training is still provided in that area.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I can receive at great deal of support, personally I don't need any, but I know if I did in anything ranging from college support in units or BTECs they offer specialists who work i company happy to offer free tutoring in work hours, to personal issues like mental health.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider is getting me through the entire learning side of the qualification. They teach me the whole 12 units, and the 3 BTECs alongside the 12 units. They put me through the 12 exams for the units, and conduct the whole process for the 12 SARs for the units also.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like it works perfectly, as it teaches me the theory behind what I practically do for every unit. It doesn't always perfectly align but I feel like in general it tends to which allows me to perform better as I have knowledge about the role and what someone in this role will do.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I have had the opportunity to participate in the SCAF challenge through my employer, which is an estimating challenge which you partake in as a team. The challenge we had to undertake was to estimate the cost of a human life which allowed to research and use many different techniques.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like AWE is a good place to work, with many different functions, a lot of people you can get to know with huge amounts of experience. They also have great benefits like a decent wage, and pension and peace of mind schemes, like the death in service scheme.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
Apply if you have an interest in roles you see from mechanical to technical, and generally don't overthink it as I feel they just generally appreciate honest hard working people to come and work for the company, and also to have fun as it is a pretty decent workplace.
