Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Economic analyst providing policy advice and analysis for the forthcoming review of State Pension age and providing advice, scenarios and recommendations to the Minister and Secretary of State.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Really enjoy the programme and it has benefited me massively both on the study front and the professional/career side of things too.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Learnt SAS Programming language to explore admin and survey data as well as longitudinal analysis, developing presentational skills to both specialists and non-specialists.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
We are the first ever cohort so some organisation has understandably been a bit lax but on the whole it has run smoothly and we are well aware of key milestones and dates with sufficient time to prepare and develop.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of line manager and employer support whether it is work related or not, I feel able to ask anything and raise concerns where necessary knowing I'll be listened to.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Lots of support from the University from many different avenues, the convenors are responsive to study queries and respond clearly in good time and advisors are knowledgeable and responsive about more general questions when they arise.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Some really nice links between work and study that has helped me out a lot in work settings particularly in things like econometric/regression analysis as well as in areas like government intervention and market failure.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are lots of professional networks, I am a part of a few economics groups, but there are also things like book clubs, 5-a-side football and things like that.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Government Economic Service to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Amazing work environment with lots of chances for career and professional development in really interesting topic and policy areas across government.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Government Economic Service?
Would definitely recommend applying as it is a great organisation to be a part of if you are a keen economist, there's loads of chances to better yourself and learn new things from subject experts. Take the plunge and you won't regret it.
