Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a HR Advisor in the construction industry. I deal with employee relations, employee engagement, Inclusion and Diversity, Learning and Development and other. My responsibilities revolve around supporting managers to manage their teams in the best way possible and to support the business in being a great place to work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have really enjoyed my programme. The team I work with are all massively support me and champion me in my development, allowing me to learn something new every day. The company culture is great and allows me to focus on my learning every day as well as apply this to my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt many news skills. These revolve around the workings of Human Resources and how best to support a business and it's people. I have also been able to develop existing skills, predominately core skills such as relationship building, communication, leadership, teamwork, thinking skills and many others.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very structured. I had an in depth induction which allowed me to see every part of the business and the areas I would be working in. My programme was based on rotations so that it could benefit me in every part of my CIPD journey. I had a mentor, buddy and line manager who were always around to support.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer always prioritised my learning and ensured I had enough time to do this when needed, while also ensuring I was exposed to new things in the business. My manager ran both coaching and mentoring sessions with me to ensure I was focusing on my development goals and objectives.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My Tutor met with me whenever required. She ensured I was on track for all aspects of my coursework and provided guidance when needed. My tutor is incredibly positive about my learning and wanted me to succeed throughout the course. I really enjoyed working with her through the 2 years.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
As a result of completing my qualification I was able to theorise the work I was doing on a day to day basis, which enabled me to understand why I was doing things to support the business. This also allowed me to understand how to prioritise my workload and focus on the more important aspects of my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Tarmac there are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in. Recently they have organised football tournaments for those interested. Volunteering days are also encouraged with your teams in addition to networking with current and past graduates and apprentices. We also work with solutions for the planet, STEM and support local schools.
