Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently in a role as a material scheduler. This involves ordering the correct amount of materials to suffice the demand that is needed by the production team. Materials needed to be ordered at the correct lead time and managed so that they arrive just in time to prevent taking up space in the warehouse.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme. There is a great culture working at barnard castle and I have made some great friends at university. I find the tasks at work challenge me and enable me to develop and I find the university studies interesting and engaging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills. For example learning about the SAP system and how it operates. In addition to this I have developed my inventory management skills to know the most efficient amount of stock to order and hold. I have developed existing skills such as presenting to groups of people and Microsoft excel skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured very well. I get set times to complete university work within working hours. In addition to this I get block release to go to the university for a couple of days at a time with a weekly lecture for a few hours online. There is a great balance between the two.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive all the necessary support from my employer. They point me in the right direction for specific tasks which will enable me to learn new valuable skills. They also support extra activities outside of university such as Microsoft excel courses and even team building activities for all the apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider provides great support. They teach us in an interactive and fun way that helps me to learn. They cater to a range of experience levels of people on the course so that we can all learn. They also provide us with additional time for assignments in periods where we may be busy at work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification that I study and the work that I do compliment each other perfectly. What I learn at university currently is exactly what I do in my job day to day. I learn different things from both sides which benefit my performance in both aspects. I have also learnt about things at university which will benefit me in future rotations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of extra curricular activities to get involved in at GSK. We have regular social events that we can attend. We also get to go on a week trip every year with other apprentices across the UK. Finally we also collaborate with other companies apprentices to share our experiences.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend GSK to a friend because I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far. There is a great culture within the business making it a friendly and pleasant place to be. There are an infinite amount of opportunities to develop in any direction that you would like to go.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
The best advice I would give to someone applying to GSK is to be yourself. The application may seem daunting but if you ensure you be yourself it will benefit you. In addition to this research the key values of GSK and think about how you have demonstrated these values in the past.
