Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Because I am in my first year my task for the year and what I do on a day-to-day basis is a project set by our managers. It's purpose is educational strategy at science festivals. For me this involves software engineering, electronic engineering, CAD and Documentation work which helps me prepare for when I go onto project rotations
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I've wanted to be on this program for 5 years, ever since I came on a work experience week when I was 15. I've had quite a few previous experience with GE Aviation (Work Experience, Farnborough airshow, Internship at GE Aviation, Industrial cadet awards in London.) so getting onto this apprenticeship was a huge achievement for me. So with that considered I try to make the most of my time at work and thoroughly enjoy my programme

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes I have, I've developed my professionalism, social skills in work and out of work with co-workers. I've also learnt new skills including: soldering, presentation skills, how to write a professional document, coding in C language, C++ language and Python/Pygame. I have also learnt a lot of skills working with circuits and measuring equipment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say it's pretty well organised, the company/managers set out what would be happening over the year at the very start so we knew what to expect. The project had a brief and gave us a good base structure for how to use our time this year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager gives me sufficient support whether in monthly progress updates or just in catch up meetings every week or so. She is very supportive of me as an apprentice and has helped whenever I've needed it. GE Aviation is a very friendly company and i feel supported by employees in all strands of the company
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of help from my training provider, I'm not the strongest programmer but have come out the end of this year with 70% and 86% overall in my 2 programming modules due to the support I've received. There have been some bumps where help wasn't as often as other times but overall it's been a positive experience
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My degree work teaches me, and has already helped me in my current project, skills that I will use at work. It's definitely a very relevant degree to my role and possible future roles. It gives me experience that I may not of had before which gives me foundations of skills that I can further develop at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there have been a few social events with apprentices in other years, interns and post-graduates(edisons). These are always enjoyable as everyone here is very friendly and welcoming. I like the fact that even though other people in these programs may be older than me they still are always inviting me and my cohort along

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's just a great company to be a part of and to work for. They hold great values that I resonate with and that are important to many people. It is a good, safe environment to work in as well as being a very reputable business. I would recommend anyone I know to work here, in fact I already have recommended that my brother should apply.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
Take time to research GE Aviation to really understand the ethics and morals the company hold and make sure they are things you hold yourself. I would always say be yourself but also make sure to always act professional. I would also advise having at least 1 hobby that relates to engineering as GE loved that in my application
