Looking after Learning and Capabilities for the United Kingdom and Ireland Customer Development Team.
This involves working with external training providers and hiring employees into these courses.
Managing the budget per year to ensure we aren't over-spending.
Tracking and managing completion, using reports and communication with employees.
Organising internal events for employees, like lunch & learn sessions.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my degree apprenticeship, it is easy to have a work to home life balance. The teams are so welcoming and supportive which is just what a new member to the business world needs!
The company culture makes me feel proud to be part of such a influential organisation.
I not only enjoy work but I also enjoy the learning that comes with my apprenticeship, on the job and from university.

I have learnt many skills throughout my apprenticeship so far.
I have embarked on internal training courses which improve my overall business acumen.
Not yet been on any external training courses, but when the opportunity arises I will look to do so.
I have developed my confidence and presentation skills since starting my apprenticeship and have learnt how to be more professional.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

When first joining, from a university perspective I was unclear what was expected of me and the dedication required in my free time as well as my dedicated study day.
Support is provided when requested and if I am unclear with any of my studies, the tutors are happy to help.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. My line manager is amazing and provides help when required alongside help from my colleagues. Being part of the HR team, I can say the support we provide to one another is more of a friendship rather than a requirement! There are countless ways to receive guidance or support with problems whether they relate to work or home life.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My tutor is great, he is always on speed dial if I have any issues or not quite understanding something in the depth I think I should be. They are usually quick to respond and happy to help as much as needed.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Each week my qualification helps me to perform better in my role. Everything we learn is relevant to an actual organisation so being able to constantly relate what I am learning with my workplace furthers my understanding.
I know more about the function I work in but also the other major functions and how they puzzle together to form a seamless process for consumers.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in. There are classes held each week in the office gym for employees to get active with one another. For newer employees there are networking sessions which run each week to enable them to meet new people because the opportunities weren't there for this to happen in person during lockdowns.

Why?
They are a great employee, who have countless opportunities for self development and opportunities regardless of the experience you currently have which is great for someone new to the business world.
It is a vast company that enables people to build relationships with people they wouldn't necessarily meet outside of work.
Everyday you learn something new!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
I would say the most important thing is to be the authentic, real version of yourself. All personalities are welcome and new creativity or ideas is encouraged.
Not only this but always ask questions, at first it can seem quite daunting but you will 100% benefit from asking any questions that come to you.
Enjoy the experience and take up any opportunities you get offered!
