Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am an assistant manager at the trades house bar in Dundee and i basically help my GM with the day to day runnings of the pub but also help manage the rest of my team and assist in BOH work such as stock, rotas etc and making sure our pub is where it needs to be for to reach the targets given to us from Greene king
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy this program because it has shown me so many different things that I didn’t know was essential to be a good AM but also how to use different skills in my day to day job to make the experience better for not only me but my staff as well

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Through this role i have learn so many new skills such as how to improve on my communication and organisational skills. It has allowed be to understand and see how much work goes on BOH just to make sure the day to day runnings of the pub are met but also go smoothly and also allowed me to get to know and understand my team better

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The program i feel is very well structured as you know every month when you have either a group meeting or a one to one, all of the meetings were given at the start of the course for the whole year so it allowed me to plan and organise before each session
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
They are great when it comes to having to take time for the face to face group meetings or one on one, however i would say they are less understanding when it comes to juggling the work load for this and the amount of hours i have to work per week due to my role
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive lots of support, they are great with helping and giving advice on things i am unsure about but also dont give me the exact answer but a push in the right direction to allow me to figure it our for myself and allow me to develope further. They also are great with if i have work commitments and give a flexible timeline for deadlines
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think it has shows me a different side to the business and helped me to understand the role in depth very well. It’s then also showed me the tools and methods i can use in my workplace to make it better for not just me but my staff also
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
At my work I wouldn’t say there are many extra curricular activities as such due to covid but we are hoping to implement more of them in the future of what we used to do in previous years such as going to the racing with staff and regulars, staff nights out, pub quizzes etc

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel they are a good company to work for, they support their staff, they have great training opportunities on and off site, they provide good team benefits and incentives, good career opportunities and good progression in the company. When you start they also provide you with any training you may need even if you have zero experiance
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
Just to be confident within yourself, always as for advice and help if you dont understand anything and know that if you have no experience in hospitality that is okay because they will provide everything for you. Interviews are not very formal and it’s more to get a feel for who you are and what you can bring to the team we already have
